Through a partnership with The First Tee of Broward, the Chiera Family Foundation has started a pilot program which takes children that are currently undergoing cancer treatments at Joe Di Maggio’s Children’s Hospital and gives them 9 weeks of Golf lessons. Through the First Tee, these children not only get a needed break from their chemotherapy but they also learn life lessons about Honesty, Integrity, Sportsmanship, Respect, Confidence, Responsibility, Perseverence, Courtesy and Judgment. Nine healthy habits are also taught during the nine week session which helps with lessons on exercise and nutrition. This wonderful program has also been extended to a few of the siblings of these young cancer patients as they tend to sometimes be neglected as the family focuses on the child fighting the disease. This new program allows our foundation to reach out and touch kids battling cancer at other times throughout the year and not just through the summer camp.
